How are
these art tiles made ?
Great attention is placed on the research of
each of the "Symbols in Art" designs. Hand drawings are
made then transferred to actual stone or metal . A mold is created then cast in white cement.
The resulting piece is finished to reflect a look of real stone worn by
time. Each piece is created from the ground up - from research to
design to finished piece of art. There are many people who do casting but
what sets our work apart is that we work with our own hand drawn designs (no computer work here ) and the
"very real looking" finishes that we have developed. Use of
authentic semi-precious gem stones is another of our trademarks.
Each art
plaque is cast in our original molds then finished, waxed and hand
rubbed to produce the luster and warmth of aged marble or stone worn by
time.
Can they be hung on the wall?
Yes. This is often the preferred display
for home decor. Each piece comes with a slotted back allowing for easy and
immediate wall display. Simply hang on a peg or a flat head nail or screw. Treat them as you would any hanging picture or mirror.
* Table top display on a stand is also very
attractive.
Can I put them outdoors?
We recommend indoor placement of these pieces. However, they are
durable and have been waxed and sealed against moisture, and will stand up
in "semi-protected" areas outdoors away from extreme weather
conditions.
Can they be used to "build into" architectural
projects?
Yes. We recommend indoor placement. These designs are ideal
highlight and accent pieces when set into walls, mantels and other light
structures. Not recommended for placement in showers where exposed to
direct and repeated contact with water.
Do I receive any historical information with my symbol purchase?
A descriptive/history note label is affixed to the back of each art
plaque.
Where are these made?
Made in the USA. These are made exclusively in
Maple Valley, Washington by
Jeff and Kat Allen here at Sumon Company Studios.
How do I care for my art plaque?
Simple dusting is adequate to maintain a beautiful warm luster. If
needed, a light sponging off with mild soap and water is fine. Do not put
these in a dishwasher.
